Tommy Hilfiger was born in 1951 and was widely expected to follow in the footsteps of his family as an engineer.

In 1985 he left his design position with Jordache and created Tommy Hilfiger as a fashion brand.

As an astute businessman he quickly built upon the success of his first shop with an additional ten speciality stores in upstate New York.

As part of this shrewd move he would spend 1.8 million dollars on a clever advertising campaign that bestowed him as one of America’s finest designers on a par with Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, and Calvin Klein.

At the time this was deemed a little optimistic by many of his fashion contemporaries. However, as the design conveyer belt went into overdrive he soon established itself as an all American brand with truly irreverent designs.

Since 1985 Tommy Hilfiger has become a three billion dollar apparel and retail Company by offering a breadth of beautifully designed high quality products.
